Choosing the right photo for a personalised diamond painting
The sharpness of your picture depends on the starting photo and the format you choose. Three simple rules for a result that stays true to your memories.
1. Resolution and source file
Use the original file taken with your smartphone or your camera.
- Preferred: original photos, sharp and with good contrast.
- Avoid: screenshots, photos received by messaging app or social media (heavily compressed).
2. Framing: tight close-ups
In diamond painting, each square diamond measures 2.5 mm: the closer the subject, the more the details stand out.
- Faces and animals: the main subject should take up at least 50 to 60% of the image, to keep the eyes and expressions.
- Photos taken from far away: a full silhouette seen from a distance loses almost all the facial details.
3. Light and contrast
Even lighting gives rich colours. Prefer daylight, without harsh shadows on faces. Avoid backlit photos or photos taken in the dark with a lot of digital noise.
